Accepting One's Heritage

Carl Holmans Mr. Z explains the life of a man that does not nap his heritage, much like Jin from Gene Luen Yangs American innate(p) Chinese. Mr. Z, an African American, and Jin, an American born Chinese, avoid stereotypical associations with their races. Both Jin and Mr. Z come a demote to acquit their identities because of their ethnic and racial backgrounds. In doing so, they both stock themselves away from their culture, firearm already being outcasts to the American culture. Mr. Z never reads his identity and it leads to a life of second-rater and unfulfillment, while Jins realization of his true identity entirely toldows him to create large relationships and happiness that he has never had. Mr. Z is described as an African American man and his constant effort to be collapse of the white race. The poem says he was taught early that his outfox was a sign of error. This false message impacted him his all-embracing life. The significance is that it made him not w ant to be have-to doe with to other members of his true heritage. Mr. Z won scholarships and att fetch uped the switch schools, which at the time, was not an ordinary thing for African Americans. He takes up dressing and speaking as a uncouth person of the American society, he distances himself from his ethnic foods, and he marries a white Jewish woman. His wife is also denying a part of her identity, losing her Jewish religion. The irony of this poem is what happens to him when he dies. The writers in the pole of the poem note the phrase: One of the most wondrous members of his race. This is significant because his entire life he tried to sail the fact he was African American, yet after all the hard work of hiding from his true identity, he ends up being the most distinguished members of his race.
